Black Building Advisory: Ongoing Intermittent Hot Water Service Interruption
Hot water service in the William Black Building will be intermittently unavailable until further notice, due to urgent repairs. We will notify occupants when Hot Water Service is restored.
While we conduct the repairs, the following services will be intermittently unavailable:
-
Hot water for bathrooms and faucets
-
Sterilization, dishwashers, autoclaves, glass washers, and steam tables
-
Eyewash devices and overhead safety showers
During this time, cold water will not be affected. Also, cold rooms, environmental boxes, and supplemental air conditioning units will not be affected, and will be monitored throughout the shutdown.
Please consider limiting research operations that have significant potential for splash or face and bodily exposure during the shutdown.
Facilities representatives will on site before, during, and after the shutdown to ensure water is fully restored to the building.
Once service is restored, please allow faucets to run for 3-4 minutes to ensure constant flow and pressure. Water may appear brown at first, but will turn clear as it continues to run.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation as we work to improve our facilities. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact John Hession, plant superintendent, at jkh2149@cumc.columbia.edu.
