Celebrating Excellence: Four CPM Team Members Honored by Women Builders Council

Four members of the Capital Project Management (CPM) team were recognized as several of the Women Builders Council (WBC) 2024 Outstanding and Next Generation of Women Builders. Sonya Chao, AIA, LEEDLydia HernandezLucy Riederer, LEED AP, and Santia N. Valerio celebrated with other honorees during WBC's 20th Annual Gala and Dinner held on October 17, 2024.

Madeline Julian, assistant vice president for Capital Project Management, recognized the extraordinary achievements of her team members, noting "Congratulations to Lucy, Lydia, Santia and Sonya on receiving this significant recognition and award from the Women Builders Counsel! Their ongoing committment and dedication coupled with their expertise as architects and engineers is invaluable to each project. We are proud of their achievements and thrilled to have them as part of our capital project management team and CUIMC community."

Sonya Chao, AIA, LEED
Sonya Chao, who joined our team in 2023, has quickly made a significant impact with her expertise in architectural design and project management. Her leadership in façade renovation projects and her role in planning a new student residential building highlight her exceptional skills and dedication to advancing our projects. 

Lydia Hernandez
Lydia Hernandez has 24 years of experience in the construction industry. Her leadership in electrical engineering system design and capital project management has significantly contributed to the success of projects at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Most recently, she oversaw a Facilities Condition Assessment report of CUIMC’s portfolio of campus buildings, underscoring priorities and recommendations for future capital infrastructure investment.

Lucy Riederer, LEED AP
Lucy Riederer brings over 25 years of experience in design and construction, specializing in healthcare projects. Her expertise in capital project management and construction management contracts has enabled her to successfully complete numerous high-profile projects, including those for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Valley Health System in New Jersey, and Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

Santia N. Valerio
Santia Valerio has been a vital part of our team since 2017. Her work on various projects, from office renovations to large-scale infrastructure projects, showcases her versatility and commitment to excellence. Santia’s mechanical engineering and construction administration background have been pivotal in her role.
