Steam and steam-related systems will be temporarily unavailable throughout Hammer Health Sciences Center, tomorrow, November 8, from 5 a.m. until approximately 10 a.m., due to urgent repairs.
- During this time, there will be no hot water, sterilization, autoclaves, steam tables, or dishwashers available throughout the building.
- Eyewash devices and overhead emergency shower units will be functional, but will be supplied with cold water only. Accordingly, please consider limiting research operations that have significant potential for splash or face and bodily exposure during the shutdown.
Additionally, the freight elevator car in the Hammer Health Sciences Center will be temporarily out of service from 8 a.m. to approximately 11 a.m. on Friday, November 8. During this time, please use the low rise and high rise elevator as needed to get to the desired floor for freight service.
- Please expect longer than usual delays for passenger service while we conduct our maintenance work.
- Consider using the stairwells whenever possible to alleviate extra traffic and allow accessibility access to the remaining elevators.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation as we work to improve our facilities. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact John Hession, plant superintendent, at jkh2149@cumc.columbia.edu.
