Student-Led Photo Exhibit Debuts at Knowledge Center
A photo exhibition titled “First-Year Medical Students’ Experiences During the COVID-19 Pandemic” is currently on display at the Knowledge Center at the Augustus C. Long Health Sciences Library. This exhibition uses Photovoice, a qualitative community-based participatory research methodology, to evaluate and visually document several first-year medical students’ experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. Photovoice is a visual research methodology that puts cameras into the participants’ hands to help them document, reflect upon, and communicate issues of concern.
This exhibition was done in collaboration with the Department of Medical Humanities and Ethics, Dr. Rita Charon, Chair.
The project facilitators are:
- Dr. Silvia Cunto-Amesty, Associate Professor of Medicine (in the Center for Family and Community Medicine), Population and Family Health, and Medical Humanities and Ethics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Provost's Senior Faculty Teaching Scholar
- Gail Albert-Halaban, co-leader of StudioLab in the Department of Medical Humanities and Ethics
- Alani Estrella, Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, Class of 2023
Additional support for this exhibition was provided by the Augustus C. Long Health Sciences Library and CUIMC Facilities Management. Visit the Knowledge Center, located on the lobby level of Hammer Health Sciences Center.
