CUIMC Parking

Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) has limited on-campus parking and asks employees and students to evaluate using sustainable travel modes such as transit, biking, and carpooling before choosing a driving commute and seeking a parking space. Additionally, to support this mission, Columbia provides myriad transportation services, such as free shuttles, carpool matching, and bicycle services, to provide you with commute options that reduce traffic congestion and emissions associated with University operations. More information about these services and resources is available on the Columbia Transportation website https://transportation.columbia.edu/

Electric Vehicle Charging at Columbia University Irving Medical Center

To support Columbia’s sustainability goals, Columbia has committed to expanding electric vehicle charging stations in its garages to support and encourage its driving commuters to transition to electric vehicles. Additionally, in 2022, Columbia announced its plans to gradually transition Columbia-managed parking areas for use by zero-emission vehicles only, phasing out access for internal combustion engine vehicles such as gas and diesel vehicles. The phase-out in University-managed space is expected to begin between the years 2030 and 2037 to meet the University’s greenhouse gas reduction targets. More on this announcement here https://sustainable.columbia.edu/news/transitioning-zero-emission-vehicle-columbia-parking-areas

Electric vehicle charging stations are located in all CUIMC parking garages.

Policy for use: The use of the electric vehicle charging outlets is free and only available to those with parking privileges in those garages. The charging outlets are on a first-come, first-served basis. Vehicle owners must remove their car from the charger after four hours of charge, or when their vehicle is fully charged to make room for others. Drivers should not use the Columbia EV chargers as their primary charging source; the outlets are to allow EV users to “top-off” their vehicle in case they need the extra range.

Publicly available electric vehicle charging stations

Use the New York State Electric Vehicle Charging Station Locator to find publicly available charging stations:

Search for electric vehicle charging ports throughout the United States, including private residential locations, using PlugShare.
