Join a fire drill and review your basics during Fire Prevention Month
October is Fire Prevention Month at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Take this time to participate in a fire drill in your workplace and review your fire safety basics.
Campus-Wide Fire Drills
In the coming weeks, fire drills will be conducted throughout non-residential buildings in the medical center by members of our Fire Safety team and Environmental Health & Safety Fire Safety. Please look out for postings in your building to find out when your drill will be.
During the drills, listen for announcements on your floor to receive instructions. Drills will be conducted in the elevator lobby of each floor, and evacuation will not be necessary.
Brush Up on Fire Safety Basics
October 7-13 is National Fire Prevention Week, an annual commemoration of the devastating Great Chicago Fire. This year’s campaign is Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere. Get safety tips, games, and activities that you can use to educate yourself and your family about fire safety.
Take this time to review these critical fire safety guidelines:
- Fire Safety Basics
- Halloween Fire Safety
- Change Your Clock, Change Your Batteries (November 4, 2018)
Did You Know?
The Facilities Fire Safety team provides coverage on the medical center campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We provide after-hours support for capital projects taking place across campus, meaning that our project managers can accomplish their work without interrupting your daily routine. If a fire alarm goes off, we also respond and investigate, coordinating with emergency personnel as needed.
